This 5-day workshop will address enamelling on three-dimensional forms using both wet and dry application techniques.

Participants will start by altering an existing seamless copper form, or by raising a form from a flat copper sheet if there is interest and time.

Sarah will demonstrate a range of ways to manipulate, add textures and marks, form feet and distort the basic shape using a range of metalsmithing and silversmithing techniques.

The emphasis of this class will be on different ways to achieve line on enamelled forms. Some of the techniques that will be covered for this essential element of visual design are: stencilling, diamond burs, rubber stamps, foils, and cloisonne with hand-made wires, with a focus on combining and layering techniques.

Attention to the final finish on pieces, including under-firing and etching, will also be addressed during this five-day workshop.

Participants should have a basic understanding of jewellery-making and some prior enamelling experience to get the most benefit from this class.

Tools and materials will be provided, with the exception of the spun copper bowls. These can be purchased at the workshop venue and range between $10 - $20 each.
